Travel Tuesday - Brussels

Brussels is the capital of Belgium and the administrative centre of the European Union. This has earned the city the title of the Capital of Europe. Brussels has been given its character by the coexistence of French and Flemish culture, and it is nowadays home to nationalities around the world, adding a cosmopolitan flavour to its atmosphere. The vibrant atmosphere of Brussels is further enhanced by picturesque medieval streets, lively squares, beautiful boulevards, impressive monuments, spacious parks, cosy cafés, interesting restaurants and an active cultural life.

The Stanhope Hotel in Brussels is pure old world elegance and comfort.

I think I would find this hotel mighty comfy - how about you?

Travel Tuesday - Seville and the Opera Carmen

This week, I'll be singing in a performance of Bizet's Carmen, with the South Shore Conservatory of Music's Opera by the Bay. One of my best friends, Beth MacLeod (above), is singing the title role - one she was born to play. I'm a chorus girl! Or, in this opera a cigarette girl. The entire cast is amazing - so if you're in the eastern Massachusetts area, I highly recommend it!

In honor of Carmen, the ultimate Gypsy temptress, I thought we'd take a trip to Seville, the setting for Carmen, her gypsy gang, the Toreodores, Picadors and many hot sultry nights.

I love the use of saturated sky blues, ochre yellows and , traditional styling and tomato reds of these rooms!

Travel Tuesday - Philadelphia

In honor of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, we visit Philadelphia. In the summer of 1776, it was hot, there were outhouses and there was no air conditioning. My guess is that Adams, Franklin, Jefferson and the rest of the boys would have enjoyed an indoor privy and a cool hotel room.

And here is a pretty cool hotel room. A city tourism push called Uwishunu (You wish you knew) has spawned its own hotel room - Room 414 in the Westin Hotel Philadelphia was designed by some of the cities premier designers and artists.

Happy Fourth of July everyone!
