When I came across Katy's images recently, I felt a vague familiarity like I knew her...and I discovered that our paths did indeed cross in the past.As many of you know, I used to live in New York City. When I lived there, not only did I design and model clothing, I also shopped for it like a maniac. I had an entire room of my 4 bedroom Hell's Kitchen apartment devoted entirely to clothing, shoes and accessories...a lot of which still had tags on it many years later when I cleaned house in order to make my move to Los Angeles. {I'm not the only one who does this, right?} *sigh*
Anyway, TMALSS...I realised that I used to shop in the East Village vintage store that Katy Rodriguez co-owned called "Resurrection". I looooved that store!
Now, Katy also resides in California and designs her own line, drawing inspiration from "her insatiable love for history’s quirky fashion characters and sartorial worldliness".
For her SS 09 collection, Katy played with the complex relationship of the Spanish bourgeoisie and ancient Mexico. She mixes elements of tailoring and European refinement with the vibrancy of Mexican folk attire to create a wearable palette of fine Italian cottons, gorgeous laces, and printed silk. Her collection epitomizes the political heroine, a rule-breaking woman who espouses her cultural identity while simultaneously maintaining a fierce independence and strength. The collection is sophisticated, vibrant, and innately feminine.
I'm sure that you'll love her beautiful work as much as I do...now, who wants to go shopping?
