being a city boy, this wilderness holiday adventure intrigued me. i always considered camping meant staying at a hotel that had less than 5 stars! while i did not go camping but i enjoyed a taste of rural life for a few days during the Christmas holidays. Valli di Lanzo (Torino) is not over crowded with tourism and superficiality. Basically, the locals are hospitable, the local foods and cheeses are simple , tasty, just quite fantastic and to keep warm, every 20 minutes or so, you stop in a tavern to have a wine or grappa, sample some local delights like the various toma or goat cheeses! so, long johns in tow, and my good friend of more than 20 years and hostess Caterina Negretto Belge, Principessa di Pessinetto was my tour guide. i survived the cold, snow and extra chilos of food and drink, onward 2009!
